During his lavish party filled with fans, impersonators, orphans and handicapped children, Michael Jackson said Thursday that he wouldn't change the path of his career, despite "deliberate attempts to hurt me."

The reclusive pop star, in Tokyo for several "fan appreciation events," was the guest of honor at a party where about 400 people paid $3,500 each for a buffet dinner, a show featuring several Japanese Jackson impersonators and a chance to take photos with Jackson. More than 100 orphans and handicapped children were invited for free.

Wearing sunglasses and dressed in a black-and-gold Roberto Cavalli suit, Jackson appeared on the stage at the end of the six-hour party to read a  thank you message.

"I've been in the entertainment industry since I was 6 years old," he told AP. "As Charles Dickens says, 'It's been the best of times, the worst of times.' But I would not change my career."

"While some have made deliberate attempts to hurt me, I take it in stride because I have a loving family, a strong faith and wonderful friends and fans who have, and continue, to support me," he said.

"Japan is one of my favorite places to visit in the world," Jackson told the crowd Thursday, reading from a statement. "I want to thank all of you for making me the biggest-selling artist in Japan."

"You can't put a price tag on this," said Jenny Sasaki, who arrived in a fur coat and sequined gown. "I love Michael Jackson, his music, his sensitivity and his humanity."

: MJJ to buy property in Tokyo? :

From the Chicago Sun-Times

While a lot of Americans likely agree with Chris Rock's quip ("I wouldn't even let Michael Jackson watch my kids -- on TV!!!), the self-declared King of Pop's worldwide fan base includes a ton of supporters in Japan.
That's likely one reason a close Jacko associate tells me the controversial entertainer is seriously looking for property outside Tokyo. No word on who would help finance this latest Jackson expenditure, coming at a time when he is known to have ongoing cash-flow problems.

"But they love him there," says the MJ insider. "And he relates to that and is telling everyone he would like to spend at least part of the time in a country he calls 'truly civilized.' "

They may love him in the Land of the Rising Sun, but promoters say tickets to two exclusive fan events in Tokyo this week are still available -- perhaps thanks to the high price of hangin' out with Jacko. A Thursday VIP party costs $3,500 for the chance to mingle with Jackson -- including a whole one minute of exclusive face time with him.

No word on how much Jackson is being paid to appear at the Toyko fan events.

: More reports on possible reunion :

From London Net

Michael Jackson's reunion with the Jackson Five could earn him UKP250 million.

The group - who last regularly performed together 23 years ago - are set to earn a fortune from playing 250 Las Vegas concerts over three years.

A world tour, a best-of album, two new tracks, merchandise and product endorsements have also been discussed.

The band - comprising of Tito, Marlon, Jackie, Michael and Jermaine - are currently in talks with producer Jack Wishna, who was responsible for Celine Dion's shows in Caesar's Palace.

A source told the Daily Mail: "The rest of the family were offered a deal to reform - for a much smaller payday - and told if they got Michael on board, the figure would skyrocket. The deal being thrashed out
now is astronomical."

However, it has not been easy convincing Michael to return to the group. He has reportedly made a series of outlandish demands regarding his Las Vegas move.

The source added: "He has been requesting all sorts of additions, like finding a secure high-walled home for himself and his children in Nevada for the duration of the Las Vegas concerts."

Rumours are also rife a Jackson Five theme park, museum, casino and hotel could be in the pipeline.

The Jackson family's attorney Brian Oxman confirmed the band were in talks, but insisted the figures being discussed were "totally preliminary".

Michael, 49, has estimated debts of UKP170 million.
He was acquitted of 10 counts of child molestation in December 2003 and has since lived as a recluse.
